Sharon Montcalm, M.Ed., LPC-S, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor® is a child therapist in the Dallas–Fort Worth area who specializes in play therapy for children ages 3 and up experiencing anxiety, big emotions, and overwhelming behaviors. With training from Texas Tech University and experience as both a licensed professional counselor and former school counselor, Sharon brings a strong understanding of how children learn, regulate emotions, and heal.
Sharon helps children struggling with childhood anxiety, separation anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation challenges, and school-related stress. Her work centers on play therapy for young children, which provides a safe and developmentally appropriate way for kids to express thoughts and feelings they may not yet have words for.
Play therapy creates the foundation for successful trauma treatment. Once children feel safe and regulated in the playroom, Sharon integrates EMDR therapy for children to help process single-incident trauma, bad dreams, intrusive thoughts, and anxiety-producing memories in a gentle, child-friendly way.
Parents often reach out when they are seeing tantrums, big feelings, school refusal, anxiety, or confusing behaviors at home or school. Sharon partners closely with parents while helping children build confidence, emotional regulation skills, and resilience through the language they know best—play.
Her approach blends play therapy, EMDR therapy for children, and parent support, helping families calm the chaos, strengthen connection, and create more peaceful days at home and school.
