About Jen Sperring Occupational & Family Therapist · Play Therapist
Jen works with children, adolescents, and families who are navigating some of life’s harder moments — and she meets them with warmth, curiosity, and over 20 years of clinical experience behind her. Her approach is person-centred and trauma-informed, grounded in attachment and neurodevelopmental science. Jen tailors every intervention to the individual, working at each client’s developmental level rather than just their age. This means therapy feels accessible, meaningful, and safe — even for those who have found it hard to connect with support before.
What Jen offers
Jen draws on a broad range of evidence-based approaches, including:
• Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) — for trauma processing and recovery
• Child-Centred Play Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy — giving children a language beyond words
• Filial Therapy and Family Therapy — strengthening the relationships that matter most
• Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT)
• Sensory Integration and bottom-up neurodevelopmental approaches
• Mindfulness, Exposure Response Prevention, and Interplay
• Occupational Therapy
Areas of support
Jen has extensive experience across a wide range of presentations, including: • Childhood trauma and PTSD • Anxiety (Separation Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety, OCD) • Autism Spectrum Disorders and sensory processing difficulties • ADD/ADHD and behavioural challenges • Depression in children and adolescents • Eating disorders • Borderline Personality Disorder • Family separation and complex family dynamics • Medical trauma and chronic health conditions • Functional Capacity Assessments
Why this approach works
Jen understands that healing happens through relationship. Many of her clients arrive having tried other services without lasting change. By combining body-based and attachment-focused therapies, she can reach the parts of experience that talk alone can’t always access — including pre-verbal and non-verbal memories held in the body and nervous system. EMDR is now a central part of Jen’s trauma work. It is one of the most well-researched therapies for PTSD and trauma, and Jen integrates it thoughtfully alongside play-based and relational approaches — particularly when working with children and families for whom traditional talking therapy can feel out of reach.
Jen also provides clinical supervision to other therapists and supports allied health professionals in building their own practice. She is known for her collaborative approach and her commitment to genuine, lasting change for the families she works with.
